Transformers

It has taken most of the week, but I believe we are ready to go cruising. We spend most of our time on the boat racing, which means no weight in the ends of the boat and lots of sails stowed in what I like to call the party pit. The anchors go into the anchor locker, the dive tanks go in the lazerette, extra lines go into the stern locker, bimini top gets installed, grill is put on the rail, boom tent goes in the locker as well. Water tanks get flushed and filled, ice maker gets flushed out so there's no bad taste to the rum. Race instructions are removed from nav table and charts put in nav table, engine oil changed, lockers loaded with two weeks worth of swim wear. Extra spinnakers removed and storm jib stowed. All I need now is TS Berry to go west so I can have a nice window Wed to go east to the Bahamas.

We live in S Florida, I dont need an oven, so the oven gets yanked out and an ice maker goes in it's place. Best mod I ever made, I can even run it on the inverter when the engine is running. Ok maybe the second best mod, the 12v reefer is the best, and with the ice maker making a pound of ice an hour, we always have cold beer.

Sorry, I'm not smart enough to post pics from my phone. I bought a small ice maker from Best Buy. After removing the oven,I put a shelf over the gap and slide the ice maker under it. It's not as wide as the oven was so it leaves storage space for paper towels and such.
Our plans to leave this morning got put on hold due to the remnants of Debby. It looks like Thursday morning will make for a nice crossing with west winds between 10 and 15.

It only took 5 days to get home! After a week of great racing we started home with the wind over our shoulders. Soon enough the wind died and I was stuck motoring with a racing prop, kind of slow. First two days we traveled for 11 hours each. Third day was the hottest ride I have ever had. One night at West End Bahamas and we will set off on our crossing home. We leave at 7:00am Wed morning for our crossing and have a wonderful sail for 3 hours, then the poo hits the fan. 1 hour of trying to keep the boat pointed in the right direction into fierce winds and converging 6 foot waves, and I turn around for West End. Three hours later I am tied up in the same slip I left 7 hours earlier.
Thursday morning looks very promising and we set off at seven. We head south and have storms to our west and storms to our north. We thread the needle and have several hours of great sailing, then about the time we need to start heading west, the wind dies. Again I am stuck with motoring down wind with no wind and a prop that does not push. 17 hours after I left West End I tie up to my dock in Light House Point.
I love this trip and will be doing it again as soon as possible

Is the ice maker AC or DC?

Ice maker is AC, we can run it off the genset or if we get desperate, we can run it off the inverter with the engine running. It's a no lose situation for us eithern way, we spent 18 days in the Abacos and didn't buy a single bag of ice. I have friends that spent more money on ice than they did on fuel.

Just as a heads up safety tip. All appliances from box stores are wired to meet house electrical codes. Meaning that the ground and neutral wires on your ice maker are probably tied together. You never want that on a boat where the neutral and ground wires are tied together. Only at the source of power is that OK. If the neutral and ground wires are tied together on the the appliance, that creates one fault on your boat. If another fault should occur you risk the chance of a electrical shock.
