Moorings

Anyone have knowledge of getting moorings. Someone told me you can get moorings for personal use in various locations. Would love to explore for typical cruising spots in my area; Block Island, Newport, Cuttyhunk, etc.

Maybe can get as a club and share. Ideas? Knowledge? Willingness to pursue?

I know this is dated but since no one else has replied...All those places have moorings. Your best bet is to get a commercial cruising guide... they list who has moorings in each port and a contact phone & VHF number. There are just too many to list in a posting.

Also, many yacht clubs make their members' moorings available to guests, sometimes only for clubs with reciprocal privileges and almost always for a fee. These are usually but not always listed in the cruising guide. Check with them online or call ahead!

We just returned from an extensive cruise from FL to MA and back and used the ActiveCaptain website to help with questions like that. There are markers for all the marinas, mooring areas, anchorages, etc. and other captains post their experiences and prices charged so a lot of info is fairly recent.

I think any cruiser should check it out. It is free and you just have to register.
