Aft Centerline Water Tank

Has anybody come up with an alternative to securing the aft centerline water tank other than fiberglassing the wooden enclosure around it?  If yes I would like to know how you did it.

I had to remove the aft center line water tank to replace the strut that supports the prop shaft.

In putting the water tank back in I want to see if there is an alternative to fiberglassing the wooden enclosure around the tank.

Also, on a related issue, do the engine throttle and engine gear shift cables go under the tank?  I lost the pictures of this when my phone with pictures unexpectedly went for a swim with me - of course I hadn't backed up the photos.

Thanks.

Hi John,

There are some advantages to the wood casing around the tank.  If you need to attach something the casing can be used to hold it in place.  In my case, I have the solar panels voltage regulator fastened to front end, accessible from the small hatch for the seawater shut off and strainer.  On the port side I have some NMEA 2000 wires and other electrical components fixed and up and out of bilge area aft.  I think the wood housing is reasonable way to protect a fully loaded plastic tank.

On your second question, my engine control cable go through the muffler housing directly behind the engine.  I replaced the shut cable 2 years ago.

Good luck,

The control cables definitely went under the center  water tank on our 1998 mkII.

Hi John,
I was at my boat today,  The throttle & gear shift cable do go under the water tank.  Only the engine shut off cable around the port side of the boat.  Sorry for the miss leading post earlier.  Hope this was in time.
