Nav Station Seat-Back Bolt Size

Hey Friends,

Kind of an odd-ball out-of-left-field question here, but we have a fairly new to us 2003 36mkii where the previous owner had removed the seat-back from the Nav Station seat.  Is that common?  Still have the back, just not attached.  Would like to replace but have no idea what the bolt size would be.  Would anyone happen to know size, pitch, and length of the four bolts that affix the back to the base?  Look to be maybe 1/2"?

If not, no biggie.  I'll likely just bring a handful of various sizes with me next time and just do trial and error.

Just throwing this out there since it appears there's not a single question that hasn't already been asked and answered on this forum.

Thanks, and happy sailing!

Best,

Kurt

Can't help with the bolt size, but can comment that the po of our boat also removed the back of the Nav seat. My guess is that that the seat back restricted the door opening and access to the rear cabin. We leave our door open to create better air circulation. We have two small screw hooks- one near the top of the door and other in the wood trim near the cabin ceiling. A bungie chord stretches between the hooks to hold the door open, but is readily removed when the cabin is in use. We stuck a small felt pad between the door and nav station trim.

That's a great point about obstructing the door.  Guessing the PO removed the seat-back for the same reason.  Might go down the path of putting in screw hooks, as we too like to leave the door open as much as possible.  Thanks for the prompt reply!

We purchased our 2003 new in believe it or not in 2003. The first thing I did was remove that nav station chair.

This forum proves that great minds think alike. In the years since the first Catalina 36 (circa 1983) we have gone from navigation by paper charts on the chart desk with dividers, parallel bars, compass etc to zero real need to sit at the chart desk. Didn't remove the seat on our first 36 #27 I think, but the back to our 2000 edition languishes under our house!

I removed my nav seat completely.  Put a bench seat in and a dc fridge/ cooler/ freezer under the bench, doubled my fridge capacity, and made a nice seat for conversing with the chef or the bar tender....
