I have two hatches on my 1999 C36 that are both severely crazed and both leak. I have read some good reviews on this forum about Select Plastics/Hatch Masters in CT, so I decided to call for a quote. After sending pictures and speaking with Tony, I was quoted $439 per hatch. Just to be clear, this is a REBUILD of my existing hatch.
My hatches are Lewmar Coastline, size 44. Defender has Lewmar Low Profile hatches in that same size for $363. Can anyone tell me why I should go with a rebuilt hatch vs. brand new? The only logical reason to go with rebuilding my old hatches for more $ would be the guarentee that they fit? Thanks again!

Or just buy new acrylic from your local plastic store, break out and clean out the old ones along with the caulking used to bed them, buy new caulking from your local chandlery, cut the acrylic to fit with the slow speed and a metal blade on a jigsaw, and replace them yourself. They are just pieces of plastic cut to fit and glued-in. I have done it myself on a few hatches and portholes and, while keeping the caulking from being messy around the edges is difficult, the entire process is not.
