After extensive internet research I can't seem to pin down a construction detail. On our 1992 Cat 36, it appears that the interior and exterior grabrails are mated up. I have four "small" leaks along two badly weathered chipped and split rails. I am thinking we will have to drill out the bungs inside and out to pull them apart for the new exterior ones to be properly rebedded. This is a little distressing since the interior rails look beautiful. Collateral damage is likely no matter how careful we are, and a total refinishing will probably be in order.

Yours is a Mk1 like ours, albeit 7 years newer. As can be seen in the attached photos, the screws for the outside rails are accessible from the inside in a line of screwheads outboard of the inside grab rails, and vice versa the fasteners for inside rails are visible on the outside in a line on screwheads inboard of the outside rails. I take it yours doesn't look like this?
