Ritchie Compass Removal

We have a Ritchie binnacle mounted compass that needs to be removed. Can anyone tell me how to remove the outer bell housing of the compass? We do not see any screws holding it on to the Edison pedistal.

The screws are at the bottom of the stainless piece. Remove the compass and stainless piece together then turn upside down to access the screws that hold the compass to the stainless piece.

While its off you you should do the yearly recommended maintenance in there (lube chain and handles). Instructions on Edson web site

It looks like you have a Globemaster series SP-5C.
You remove the (2) screws holding the black plastic lightshade on the compass. Once you do so, you should be able to lift the stainless steel binnacle piece up enough to see how the light is connected to the boat. If you have enough slack in the light wire, you can finagle the housing to slip passed the lightshade.
We have made them several ways over the years. Some models have a thumb screw which should be removed as shown in the diagram.
Below is the latest way they are manufactured and “taken” apart.
Once you remove the binnacle piece, you should be able to view the model and serial number on the side of the compass capsule.

Cristin, I have the same model. It needs to be recalibrated- reads about 6-7 degrees off. Any recommendations for someone to do it in the San Pedro, CA area?
