Replacing the fixed portlights

Just an FYI.  When I purchased my boat last year, two of the large fixed acrylic portlights were cracked.  No idea how that could have happened.  Anyway, I replaced them this past winter, and I finally got around to writing up how to do this.  The new ones look fantastic.  It wasn't much fun to do, but if you need to do it see the attached.  -Don

Great write-up.  I'm tucking this one away for future use.  Notes like this makes it so much easier to tackle a job.

Great write-up and result. Just wanted to suggest that using a multi-tool with scraper blade attachment to remove old adhesive followed with the sanding attachment works very well and quickly.  No need for adhesive remover.  Did all 4 portlights this spring.  I used Boatlife Life-seal adhesive which was a bit messy but solid result. Sounds like the two sided tape is a more ideal method with no need to mask the inside edges of openings. One question: are you planning on using the two sided tape to the wide surface between the main cabin and aft cabin?

Yes I think so.  It seems like it would make sense to do so, but I'll see what was done originally when I take the old ones off and I'll probably copy what the factory did.  If they applied sealant to that section, then I'll do the same with the tape.
