Thinkness of companionway bulkhead

I bought some line organizers (http://www.bartonmarine.com/products-special-cleats.asp) from Barton to place in my cockpit on the bulkhead that leads into the salon on each side of the companionway.

I need to drill two holes to accept the hardware. Does anyone know the thickness of this bulkhead? I need to buy the proper screws and want to ensure I don't drill all the way through.

Thanks in advance.
Tim

Also you'll want to know if that area is cored. (I don't know.) If it is cored you will want to make darn sure the holes are properly drilled and sealed to prevent ingress of water into the core material.

Tim -
You might consider - as an alternative - attaching the line organizers to the cabin roof, just at the edge, so that the lines themselves hang over the bulkhead.  There's plenty of material in that area of roof to anchor the screws in without through-bolting  (I can't recall the exact thickness, but you can check by removing one of the through bolts for whatever else is already there).  Take a look at one on the pictures (portstarboard) from my posting a few years back when I redid all the control lines.
That way you can still lean back against the bulkhead while having your post-sail libation and watching the sunset without those gizmos sticking into your back.

Matthew, I am considering that as well. I was worried that the line tamers would be in the way of other control lines if I put them there. But I would prefer them on the roof b/c that bulkhead is a popular sleeping spot for the admiral!

I like the way your line organizers look in the pics (thanks). Do they ever get in the way of other moving parts?

Not in the slightest.

Thanks Matthew.

do you remember the length of screw you used on the cabin top?

No, as I wrote earlier, but you can check by removing one of the through bolts for whatever else is already there.   I know the cabin roof is pretty thick there, and the line organizers are certainly not taking significant loads, so you can use a shallow screw.

Just to close the thread - I used 3/4 inch SS screws to secure the line organizers. Worked perfectly (aided by some Life Caulk). Lines are neat and tidy now - thanks all.
