The level reading is taken with the dip stick unscrewed and resting on the casting. See attachment

You have access to all the manuals for our boats and equipment since you are a paid-up Member of the Association.
On the main menu under Members > Technical Articles > Manuals you will find a link to a PDF of the M35 owner's manual from Universal. The transmission maintenance section is on page 31.

Completely unscrew and clean. Insert dip stick, allowing the dip stick threads to just rest on the casing. Remove and inspect. Ideally, the fluid just reaches the line on the dipstick (about 1/2" from the bottom). Anything significantly past this line is overfilled and anything below this line is underfilled.
