Buying a C36

Hello There ,I am new to the forum and looking for some advice if poss, We are just about to buy our first 36 ,We are going from a Dufour 30 and wanted a bigger family cruiser ,We live in the UK and it is full of French and German yachts we had a good look around and the C36 really caught our eye. why because its different from all the rest around to be honest never seen one in the UK .
We are all set to buy her she is a 1995 C36 mk11.
Could you give me a few pointers on what to look for and pros and cons with them,i know she needs a complete rig including mast, sails ect,and new cushions full set can anyone advise where i could get a full rig diagram or drawing for our local rigger or even better a used rig i could have shipped .
Any advice you can give me i would be very grateful  many thanks

It would take hours...maybe days to give you these pointers.  Best advice I can give is to find a marine surveyor who (a) you trust and (b) already knows the C36 intimately.  This would usually be a person who has owned one and who has worked on it her/himself.

Just my 2 cents.

Cussy-
We are one year into our 36 Mk II and love it vs our C30

From reading the forum, common issues appear to be:
-Leaking chainplates (older models)
-Noisey transmission if you have an M35 engine- replace damper plate to fix "rattling" . See forum
-Raw water pumps (Sherwood) tend to exhibit early failures. Many replace with modified Oberdorfer pumps. (I did- a few hours of work. Use a dremel with cuttoff wheel for the modifications) See forum
-There was a recall on some of the Universal M35 engines- a camshaft sleeve was missing and prone to failure if not added to the engine- simple fix. The water pump shaft is driven by the camshaft.
-Be sure to keep tension on mainsail sheet when furling (If you have main furling) to minimize jamming. See forum
-Bulging water tanks (when full) due to malfunctioning breather valves. See forum
-Anchor well drain- the outlet fitting is usually located near the waterline and if it fails, can result in large amounts of water entering the bilge. Good idea to replace with bronze fitting- won't be attacked by UV. See forum

Of course there's all the rest of the normal boat issues (as with all boats) that you can read about in the forum. As with any boat, get a good survey. All in all- I think the C36 MK II is a great boat!
