I think it was Duanne who mentioned the problem he had with his cockpit scupper lines failing and bringing water into the boat thru back pressure when healing.
Well, I had the same problem but the water was coming in from the bow ... I could see it running aft into the bilge.
As I was crawling around down below trying to figure it out, the Admiral asked about the small hole down by the water line just behind the bow on the starboard side...eureka moment... the anchor locker drain hole.... plugged it up (with a candle, again at the Admiral's suggestion... if you ever need a quick plug for a smallish hole I recommend a candle...jam it in and it fits snuggly.... we'll see how long it lasts); went out on port & starboard tacks and no water..
Now the question..... has anybody tried to access the area under the chain locker? I see no way to get to the drain line short of cutting an access hole into the locker side, which I am reluctant to do.

Chuck-
Remove the v-berth shelf and bulkhead-they are held by screws and you will have access to the anchor locker drain. I've been planning on replacing the nylon throughhull with a bronze one. I think your story is accelerating my time frame. Our drain is very close to the waterline when sitting at anchor, let alone healed over.
While you're repairing things in that area- I think its also convenient to check the lubricant level in the windlas.

Thanks Paul... I took the screws out of the bulkhead panel but could not get the panel out. Is it held in by the shelf?

I believe it is held by the shelf. It's been a while since I removed it. If I remember, some of the screws were difficult to see. When all the wood pannels are removed, there will be pretty clean access to everything you need
