Movie shown on a sail?

Last night when I returned from sailing I arrived to a small crowd sitting on the dock watching a movie that a Catalina 27 owner was showing on his sail.

I have never seen or even heard of this being done, and thought it was real cool.

I want to do this too.

Anyone else here ever try that, and can recommend equipment that is needed?

Well, never seen it personally but I follow some blogs of people sailing south and one of them talked about a big Cat (amaran, not alina), roughly 60', that entertained the entire anchorage one night by showing movies on the mainsail.

I assume you would need a windless night or you'd be working your neck muscles overtime trying to track their boat swinging vs your boat swinging.

Blair.
We have seen this a few times down in the Bahamas done a a cat. We called it the dingy drive up. What the guy did was beach one side of his hull at high tide so he did not move and shown the movie on his main sail along with a great sound system he had as well. Then all the dingy's came in with what ever you wanted to eat and drink and anchored out. One of the movies was Avatar. I can probably get you in touch with the guy who did it but it will take a few emails. Let me know.

Blair, have you considered asking the C27 owner, or leaving a note on his boat to contact you?
