Rope clutches

My main halyard rope clutch is not staying open, thus necessitating a rebuild but for the life of me I cant determine the manufacturer....what is the standard equipment on a 2001 36 Mark 2?

Garhauer.

The solution they recommended to me was to simply tighten the tension on the screw that the handle pivots around.

Just a thought, you might want to clean it all up and blow it out. Then use some WD40 on the moving sections I did that a coupl of years ago and they worked perfectly! Imagine that.

OK....removed the main sheet from the clutch and had a look inside from the top down and there are NO fastners holding the clutch to the cabin top and no nuts down below...how do you remove these things?!!

There should be two machine screws attaching them to a aluminum plate embedded in the fiberglass. There is one forward and one aft. If you look straight down at the clutch and open the handle the forward one will be where there is a hole that forms the aft one will also be just below a half circle as the handle is being lifted. If you have never removed them and they have not been lubed with anti-seize liquid they maybe difficult to break free

Why do you have to remove them?

There are indeed 2 phillips machine screws holding the clutch in place.  I just took mine apart last week.  If it has not been serviced in a while, there will probably be quite a bit of lint from the line covering up the screw.  Clean out the lint and you will see the screws.  If yours is like mine was, I used WD40 to soak the screws for several days and then I was able to loosen them.  In my case, one of the small screws holding the lever had become loose and could not be tightened without removing the entire clutch.

Hope this helps...
