Need Catalina recommendation for the following, standard rig, in-mast furling for a MKll:
Inhaul - size & length
Outhaul - size and length
Schaffer roller furling line for Genoa - size and length
Topping lift - size and length
Did not see them in the on-line user manuals for a MKll

Hi John,
I recently received a PDF document from Catalina made by Charleston Spar that gives all the details on the in mast furling system. It even solved my furling/unfurling issues. Now I can furl/unfurl by easily hand.
The PDF file is 1.8 Gig and it is too large to upload to the forum. Maybe one of the moderators could tell me how to get it uploaded. I think it should be part of the library.

Hi,
if the file is really 1.8 Gigabytes then it has images at a much higher resolution than can be displayed on a screen. The only way the file could be that large is if it is a PDF prepared for printing.
Could you perhaps try to see if you can get a lower-image-resolution copy of the doc? Or, if you have Adobe Acrobat or similar, you could open it up and resize the images.
Larry'll help you :)

Thanks for the information. I have made it smaller by reducing the quality of the graphics. I can email a full strength version to the Association if someone can provide the email address.

I would send it to Larry Brandt, the technical secretary for the MkII side of the club. He's on here all the time so will probably see this, but you can find his name on the forum and get a link to email him directly.
Thanks for getting the document!

1.8 Gig! Forget that I sent a message to you to email it to me. I will work with the version you have attached and will archive it in the Technical Library. In a few days. (Busy.)
Thank you for thinking of the C36IA.

Wow, I did not expect all of this however, I did review the manual and it is really useful. Thanks everyone for the help and thanks Larry for working to add it to the library. It is a great addition and should answer a number of questions frequently posted in the forums.

The Charleston Furling Mast Handbook has now been added to the C36IA's Technical - Manuals archive. In a few days I will delete it from Marc's forum posting, thereby leaving the higher resolution version in the library as the archival copy we will refer all interested parties to.
Marc, again, thank you for your contribution.

Attached is some additional information that may be useful to some.

Thank you for that contribution. It has been archived together with the Charleston Manual.
In a few weeks both documents will be removed from the Forum, but will remain accessible in perpetuity (well, as perpetuitous as the internet can get) in the C36IA Technical - Manuals library. For a few weeks the article with the two attachments will also reside on the C36IA homepage, but eventually the article will be bumped off by fresh material to come.

I replaced both the inmast outhaul and inhaul with 3/8 regatta braid. Makes the furler easier to use as this line is soft. The screw that holds the line to the furler screw is very difficult to remove. I used a Craftsman hand impact tool to loosen/remove the screw.

outhaul length
I have read the Charleston Spar information posted here and I still dont see a length for the outhaul line I would like to replace. A call to Catalina referred me to Charleson Spar and I'm still waiting for them to respond. On Catalina Direct they sell those lines as 64' for the outhaul. Is it safe to use those lengths?
