Who makes the best hatchboard storage bag?

I've seen a few different Sunbrella bags. Any opinions on which one to get?

Without knowing which ones you mentioned, it's hard to answer. We thought about it for a long time, and have found that we store them wherever they won't budge. Some suggest the port locker, others the fwd or aft berths. I've used them all and the boards are still in OK condition after 14 years. No canvas sleeves ever.

I stand them vertically next to to waste bin to the right of the steps on my Mk11. The 2 smaller ones on the left of it and the large on on the right. We keep 2 small blocks of foam handy to stop movement. Never had a problem, dont get scratched, out of the way and near the hatch.

My bride made a neat holder out of Sunbrella that all 3 of them slip into, each one into its own section so they don't rub against each other and ruin the excellent glossy Bristol finish I put on them. It is built so once put in there the whole unit can stand at the bulkhead in the forward end of the aft cabin beside the hanging locker and be fixed to the bulkhead with a single snap.

Bud, my First Mate did the same, she made a very nice bag out of Sunbrella with dividers with a flap on top. I then made a short shelf about 8" in length and attached it to the bulhead in the aft cabin above the access door to the engine. I then had her make a strap that attaches so that the boards do not come loose. We never use the hatch board because I installed the Zarcor doors.

Has anyone considering using the hatch doors as a cockpit table? I think it could be fairly easy to accomplish with some creative joinery or even some simple mechanical fasteners.

Now that is an interesting idea! I'm sure that could be built.

I love the solutions - I store them at the v-Birth and I am always worried that they will fall. I like the solution to stand them next to the engine cover at the galley. Tomorrow I will will be at the boat. I will see how it can be done. Peter - can you send some photos?

I stand them on end in the hanging locker in the aft cabin. When they're freshly varnished, I put each between a piece of hanging clothing. When they need varnishing, I stand them all together at the end, so the engine vibration helps take the finish off:D

When sailing, mine end up on the floor of the aft cabin along with the canvas mainsail cover, helm cover & dodger window covers. They don't seem to go anywhere. When just hanging out on the boat, they end up sitting under the dodger or on a seat. Of course, now it's going to bother me so I'll have to figure out an official place for them.

That is a hell of a deal considering the amount of work that it takes to build one plus the material.
