Radar Cable Length

I am close to taking the plunge and ordering a Raymarine C80 radar package. The package only comes with a 10m cable so I am going to order either an extenion or a longer cable. Has anyone done this installation recently enough that they might remember the length of cable required for a mast installation led to the helm?

As Maine Sail reminded me in my recent post -"if you ever want to un-step the mast" you will need to terminate the cable at the base of the mast for an easy process. Your extension would need to run from the base of the mast to your display location in that case. Good luck!

Thanks Harold,
I changed my mind at the last minute and ordered the c90 with the digital radome. This should make it easier for me to add an extension to the 10m cable that comes with the unit, which will facilitate disconnecting when stepping the mast as you suggest. The analog cables\ had to be one piece since Raymarine stopped making extensions for them

Paul: I don't think you'll regret the C90 decision. Having the newer system will give you more choices as options (i.e. AIS) and software updates continue. I'm intrigued by the FLIR technology but it's very spendy for the average sailor right now. I ended up with the Garmin unit (a deal I couldn't resist) but Ray makes really good stuff! Now - you're like me - another project to add to the list - getting it installed.

Another project means another opportunity to document it with many photos and to write a "How I Dun It" article for JibSheet. Please keep the C36IA in mind when you plan these projects. Thanks.

Yes, actually alot of projects that are interelated. I am going to replace the current pedestal guard with one that is 1.25 to facilitate running wires and make more space. Then I'll add a navpod for the C90 and another pod for three st60's including the autopilot wind direction and tridata. The signet wind direction sender stopped working a few weeks ago and the display was so faded I decided to replace it rather than repair it. Fortunately I found new/old stock raymarine wind direction and an autopilot on Craigslist making things a little more affordable.

Basically it means that everything will pretty much have to be done at the same time. I particularly appreciated the recent thread on mounting a radome. There haven't been any questions that I haven't been able to get answered on this site. Thank you for you help...(I'll keep track of everything with pictures if anyone is interested down the road.)

Hello
I have a 1984 MKI. I used a Questus backstay radar support, When I redid my radar I purchased a new radar cable which was from Raymarine, it was a 10m length. I just had about 6 feet extra left over, and
It ran down the Questus into the lazerette and up into the pedastel guard.
