Removing Stauchions

Hi,

Last week when docking in a strong wind, one of the mooring lines got caught around a stanchion, which subsequently got bent and broke off. The stainless steel fabricator will make up another one (it was the stauchion that forms one part of the side gate). I just have to remove this one first. After it broke off, there was a bold head left behind. I want to remove this – so I assume there must be a access hole under the deck.
Can anybody shed some light on the attachment method for the stanchions?

Cheers
Simon

It would be helpful if you could tell us which boat you are talking about, and whether the stanchion is on the starboard or port side.

I hope you are fairing well in the cyclone that is hitting New South Wales.

The damage is on the C375, on the port side, on the forward gate mount (there are two stanchions that are used as gate posts).

The cyclones hit northern Queensland, probably about 3000km from my place.

The two boats I have in charter in QLD, sustained some minor gelcoat damage, when the deck cleat pulled off the jetty, and the timber smashed against the transom.

Ok, so I have removed the damaged stauchion, and now need to remove the through deck bolt. I can feel the end of the bolt, by reaching up behind the liner, at the back of the electrical panel. But it is very difficult, as there are other bits of the timberwork are also in the same area. I can reach the rear boat easily - but thats not the one that needs to be undone.
I tried to undo the bolt from the deck, but it was very tight and thought it may be better to ask if this was the best way to complete the task.

While feeling for the end of the bolt in the back of the cupboard, I could feel some water was making its way through the deck. Hopefully, when I reinstall this bolt, I can seal up the hole.

So, I am looking for advice - anybody have any suggestions/comments?

Below are two images of the deck fitting.
