Finally got around to replacing the nylon 3 strand rode with 8 ply brait. Tired of all the hockles ( wonderful word ! ) Not that standard rode markers will work on brait .
Plastic Wire ties would probably survive one trip through the windlass gypsy - so wondering how the rodes are marked?

I have always used black magic marker, the permanent kind. I make a heavy mark about an inch wide all around the rode. I refresh the marks every spring, usually while swapping the rode end for end. I mark it every 25 ft, one mark for 25, two marks for 50, etc. In the Chesapeake, I rarely have more than 75 feet out. I've found that I can see the marks even on a moonless night. It's the only thing I've tried that survives the windlass.

I use a black marker also.
I set 2 black bands around the rode at the 75 ft mark, then I try to always anchor in from 10 to 15 feet of water.
Pretty simple.
In a blow I let out a little more and I know I'm set.
