I have been pulling stanchions, grinding out the core and epoxying them to ensure no water gets into the core in the event of bedding failure. There was only 1 spot of higher than normal moisture in the core when we bought this boat and it was around the vent stanchion outboard of the head. When I pulled it I found that unlike the chainplates on this boat which had already been epoxied, the stanchions have exposed core at deck penetrations.
I am looking at the starboard gate stanchion, the one that has two legs. The forward leg has 3 bolts which are easily accessible, but the back leg does not seem to have any bolts coming through the deck. It looks like it sits almost directly on the bulkhead at the back of the nav station and there are no bolts showing through on either the main cabin or aft cabin side of that bulkhead. The matching stanchion on the port side has bolts for both legs inside the galley cabinets.
Does anyone know where the bolts are? Did Catalina put an aluminum deck plate in there like they do with the pulpits/pushpits? If so that would explain why there are no bolts showing up below.

I also would like the answer to your question.
You might check the handrails for calking. On our boat hull#1437, the starboard handrail on the coach roof didn't have any calking on it !!!

They are not through bolted. There is a nut or threaded plate embedded in the deck.

Thanks Tony, that's what I was hoping was the answer.
I have discovered, as many of you probably have, that there is a threaded plate embedded in the cabin top when I installed another Superlock Rope Clutch as well.:)

Wouldn't it be nice if the owner's manual contained a deck illustration showing where these plates are?
