Relocating The Water Supply Vavles

I find it incomprehensible that whenever one of the water supply tanks is empty you have to remove the cushion, lift the lid on the area in the main salon and turn a valve off, then, turn another one on. It is poor planning on the part of the engineers at Catalina to have to go through all of that just to access more water onboard. It seems to me that I saw a posting where one of the members had relocated the valves to the area that is accessable just beneath the sink in the galley, which makes a lot of sense. Can anyone advise me where that was posted?

There are obviously better valve locations to maximize ease of use, but I have been on a number of boats that were worse than our C36s.

Bruce wrote a very good article on this and it is posted in the "Articles" then "Upgrades" section.

Here is the link...

Thanks Jack for locating Bruce's article. I knew I had seen it somewhere on this site. As an added bonus he also showed how he upgraded to an elcetric the head as well - another project that I will launching soon. Thanks again for researching that for me.

No problem. I always start with the Articles section for "how to" stuff.

I am also pondering the idea of placing them inside of the narrow vertical door just below the sink. I want to place them high enough so they will be out of the way of the thru hole there.

I installed a round access port, (West Marine), in the fiberglass face of the "L" portion of the setee. I simply open it, reach in and change tanks. It's not too hard to remember which valve is which, (you have to do this by feel). The empty one will be the one that's inline with the hose.

It has never been much of a hassle to change tanks and turn valves, a 30 second job at most. I also like having a "look see" down into the bilge every now and then.

Good luck and please post some pics of what you end up doing.

Thanks,

WD

I think WD has the right approach, especially as on our boat the wine cellar is down there. :)

Yeah, the only time lifting the settee cushion to switch tanks was a pain was when a guest was taking a nap on the saloon berth. Otherwise, I have no problem with the standard arrangement.

Those that have crafted elegant solutions that suit them better - I salute you!
