Galley counter and sink replacement

Our galley counter top and sink are not getting along and have separated. Caulking has been done but it doesn't look good. I need to make the galley an attractive place for my wife who loves to cook. I'm considering replacing the whole thing with a one-piece sink/countertop of corian or some other similar type material. Anyone been through this already who has suggestions on materials, sources, etc?

I wish I could help with your question, but I cannot.

I DO wish to commend you for being smart enough to make your boat a place your wife wants to spend time, especially in the galley if she loves to cook.

Best of luck with your project!

Our counters are on opposite sides of the boats, but the materials must be the same. Try this for some info, was done way before they invented corian, though: http://www.c34.org/wiki/index.php?title=Galley_Counter

This spring I did what your looking to do. I removed out old Formica counter top and replaced it with a corian counter top. It is a lot of work as you never know how skilled the person is that is asking.

What I got was 5 sections of corian from a friend and I used that to replace the old counter top. It is the same size as the old but I added a 4 foot shelf over our sink for dishes. What I should do is a write up on the whole thing, as this time I took many pictures and once done, I got some nice complements.

The biggest one was from my wife, which she was very please. Something I kept in mind was the weight as many said how heavy the corian is. Once all done I only added 12 lbs to the top over the old. If you want drop me a email thru here and I will do what I can to help.

What year is your boat ? and sail number.

Thanks Randy! I'm just starting to get some ideas so it was great to hear someone just went through this process. Our boat is a 1990 Catalina 36, hull number 1091.

I am very interested in anything you are willing to provide and if you plan on doing a writeup of your project that would be great. My e-mail address is wkaul@grenergy.com
