Has anyone upgraded the arched traveler on their C-36 with the aftermarket flat traveler? I do not know what the Mk II comes with but my Mk I is a mother to adjust when the mainsail is under load. Catalina Direct offers an upgrade but it isn't cheap. I was wondering if anyone here has already done this upgrade and if you felt it was worth the expense?

I believe that now Catalina has Garhauer installing their travelers as standard equipment. We have one on ours and it is worth every cent. I think you would be hard pressed to find someone that would say no they were not happy with the upgrade.
If your going to keep your boat I would highly recommend it. Usually Garhauer are at the major boat shows and do a discount. Email them and ask them if they are in a area by you. There support is great as well from my point of view.

Thanks for the post. I was thinking that I was the only one having trouble using the traveller under load!

I upgraded my '94 M1.5 with the Garhauer and it makes a world of difference. I would definitely recommend it.

while you may want to upgrade the traveler, i choose to simply upgrade the block that were attached to the current traveler, Garhauer supplies a traveler block upgrade as well and believe the purchase is more than the purchase on the oem unit and while it does not provide as much flexibility as the straight traveler it does provide a lot better control than the original blocks. I have been in 25 knot winds and did not have a problem with moving the traveler. if you want to know more i believe i still have the invoice from garhauer so i should be able to supply the part numbers. Or you can just contact them and they should be able to help. it was a whole cheaper than purchasing a new traveler.
good sailing

Bill:
Looking back at your post. I presume you have the curved traveler set up. If so I am curious if Mike has a curved traveler set up. What happens in that set up is if you are centered up with the wind blowing good and you want to move it either port or starboard. You then are pulling down on the boom and sail as the same time your moving the traveler. With the straight traveler you get away form all of the added force of pulling the boom down.
