I have a bit of dry rot in the port bulkhead - the one right behind the head - in my C36 MK II. I have received all sorts of advice on this ranging from removing the bulkhead to routing out the dry rot and gluing in a piece of marine plywood in the void (if it's not too extensive) to using some product like Gitrot. These alternatives are based on the assumption that the rot is not behind the chainplate.
One - but only one - consideration is how these would affect the resale value vs. complete replacement.
Any thoughts on this general issue?
Also, I remember on the old website there was a detailed account of replacing this bulkhead, but I can't seem to find it on this site.

John,
I think that anything short of replacing the existing bulkhead will effect the resale value to some extent. If the repair of the current bulkhead is a sloppy one, I would be thinking "I wonder what other maintenance items were done poorly?" if I were looking to buy your boat. That being said, if your repair of the existing bulkhead is a good one and invisible, the effect on the resale value will be negligible. Just my thoughts.

I look at serveral C-36 MK-11 before buying one. Almost all of them has some kind of water damage to the table bulkhead (darn leaky chainplates!).
I passed on them all. No offer at all!

What I'm thinking of is to dig out the dry rot. I think given its location and the amount that I can dig it out, fill it and cover it with a piece of teak baseboard and it would look okay. The only thing is that there are some water stains on the rest of the bulkhead, but these aren't so bad - a few small dark streaks here and there, which my wife didn't even notice until I pointed them out to her. So I'm not sure if it makes economic sense to pull the mast, etc. never mind my time. Does this sound reasonable?
PS. If you go to the Catalinaowners.com web site and go to the ask all boat owners forum, you will see some photos under the thread on replacing the bulkhead. I tried attaching a photo here, but was unable to.

Just bought 97 36 and replaced both bulkheads. Bought the teak plywood from Houston Hardwoods and the Formica from HOME DEPOT. Hardest part was drilling the plugs out of the corner at the mast and finding screw heads.
Old bulkheads are a TIGHT FIT out the companion way. Catalina said the bultheads were just bolted BUT mine were bonded with something like 101.
I have pics if anyone wants. It's odd to stand in cockpit and look in the head!
Would anyone have any info on the boat I bought? CTYN 315524183g
Based Houston and named CHAMBORD.
Ike was not NICE to this vessel!

After looking everything over, I've decided to just dig out the dry rot which runs along the bottom of the bulkhead up to a maximum of 3.5" up. I'll paint in some copper green, fill with waterproof bondo and cover with some teak 1x4 baseboard. But thanks for the report.
when I'm finished, I'll post some photos.
