Mk2 mast removal

We are pulling our mast during the next haul out.     On our last Catalina sailboat the mast internal wiring (VHF Coax, DC nav lights, and Instrumentation) were connected with plugs or unions inside the mast base.I haven’t been able to find how this is done on our 2002 Mk2.   Does anyone have information about this or has removed a mast on a Mk2 36?  Any guidance would be helpful.

Thanks,
Ray

Absolutely not complicated. There are plug connectors for VHF and Nav-equipment and a small junction box where the connections are for the navigation / deck lights. On our 36MK2 these are easy reachable from under the seating. Only attention point is to guide them well when the mast is being removed as they have to pass an opening in the carpentry. (bring them inside the mast when just lifted to prevent damage when lifting through the deck) and also when installing. On our winter-work list I want to replace all mast cabling for longer cables to make connecting more easy.

Durk,
Thank you.    This is what I hoped and expected.    Is the junction box for the navigation/deck lights located inside the base of the mast?
Thanks again,
Ray

Hi Ray, all is outside the base of the mast.

The first time we pulled the mast on ours, we found the VHF antenna cable had no disconnect, just a 10' coil of slack.  So, the yard guys had to cut it, and I subsequently had to place some new ends and a barrel connector.

The instruments (wind masthead transducer) used one Raymarine multi-conductor cable, and that ran to screw terminals in a small (maybe 3x4x1") watertight box, tie wrapped up high in the bilge.
