I was changing the trans fluid the other day and was taking a temp reading with the IR gun when I saw water pouring out of the muffler inlet. It was cracked right where the inlet goes into the muffler.
I think the problem was the wrong hose on the inlet ( same style as output) compounded by me pulling the exhaust Mansfield last year to install the new style alternator bracket
I cleaned things up and ground down the crack a bit. Two layers of matting around the inlet then a new hump hose from CD. I did have to pull the exhaust from the end of the Manafold to fit the hump hose in there. Man those bolts are hard to start ( could be why they switched to studs in later units). I got lucky and gasket came away clean.
I hadplannedto take the muffler home home to do the glass work but the muffler was glassed to the hull and that seemed like too much work.

Leslie - did mine last Spring when checking the riser and re-wrapping it. The heat shield had really come apart - glad I looked.
I think the new hose makes things a little quieter too.

Looks nice Hearold. Looks like we came at it from opposite directions.

Yes - my old body doesn't like crawling around in tight spaces. I saw a post here that someone had removed the panel between the galley and aft cabin and it looked easy enough. Drilling out the hole plugs was a little stressfull but it went ok with no damage to the panel as a result. Great access to the muffler and riser pipe that way. But I hope to never have to do it again.
My muffler was ok but the old pipe was a mess and the Hump hose was easy to install with the riser off.
