Hi, everyone.
Since it irks me to have to replace stuff due to saltwater corrosion, I go to great lengths to keep salt off the exterior and interior of my boat. Keeping it off the exterior is relatively easy. Keeping it out of the interior - not so easy.
Whenever possible, I wash all the salt off my hands and body before going below, but still small droplets of salt are inevitably being carried below, blown below, dripped below and so on...and once this salt gets into the interior - on the cushions, on the electronics, onto the walls, etc. it NEVER goes away. It just sits there forever, like nuclear waste, just waiting for me to touch it and spread it around...and then waiting for any little bit of moisture to allow it to begin its corrosive mischief.
So this got me to wondering what you other boaters do to keep salt out of the boat, and more important, once it inevitably gets in there, how you remove it.
These boats are not like houses. Houses can't take much water, even fresh water, in unexpected places. I'm betting that my boat can....
So I'm thinking about removing all the cushions and then using SaltAway or just a soapy solution to wash down the entire inside of the boat top to bottom, stem to stern. Then I would also spray Corrosion Block into all the electrical outlets (AC and DC). Then I would run my dehumidifier on high for a week or so to remove all the moisture that soaked into the walls and locker covers and such.
Has anyone ever tried this? Or do you have a better idea for removing all the salt from the interior?
