I had an accident and broke the lens in the hatch over the head on a 95 markII. It seems the hatch is a coastline model which is now replaced with the low profile model. My option seem to be two, send the hatch to select plastic to get a new lens which means a big hole in the deck for 3-4 weeks or buy a new low profile hatch. My question is does anyone know if the interior trim and screen from my old hatch will work with the new model. Lewmar lists the cut out as the same but some style differences do exist. I,m thinking of the new hatch just so I do'nt have to deal with a hole in the deck for so long during the season. Any ideas or feed back
Thanks Larry
I talked to select plastics and it will cost around 280 to repair the hatch. I can get a new low profile one for 220. Seems like a no brainer but the admiral is worried it wont match the one on the other side. Any opinions on repair vs replace 1 vs replace both?

I've wanted to replace the crazed hatches on my 96 MKII for a few years now. Two years ago I bought some low profile Lewmars from Defender. I was not able to get them to fit well due to the shape of the cabin top. It was a real drag, and I ended up putting the old hatch back in and sending the low profiles back. In all honesty, I found the low profiles kind of cheesy compared to the Coastlines.
I tried again this year to send the lids to Select Plastics and ran into the same time frame issue you are experiencing. Tony at Select also suggested that I not try to pull the pins and remove the lid, but rather send the whole hatch back. His reasoning was that 60% of the time, you wreck the pins, and the whole hatch is then a throw-away. Replacement pins are no longer available.
I guess this is kind of an off-season only project. Let me know if you find a better solution. Perhaps you can glue a piece of acrylic on top of the old acrylic to get you through the summer. Sorry I don't have better news, and keep us up to speed on the project if you do send them to Select.

Hi, lflenner.
1. I have had some accidents in our head, but never bad enough to break a hatch. Maybe a change in diet? ;)
2. I agree that one temporary solution could be to glue/screw a patch over the damaged lens until you can effect permanent repairs in the off-season.
3. We would know more about you and be able to call you by name if you added a signature. Check out some of the others, like mine, and you'll see.
Best of luck with your project.
