Varnishing interior of engine compartment

Hi,

I have to replace the small hatch in the aft cabin that opens into the engine compartment. Notice that the rest of interior wall in the engine compartment is varnished. Does any special heat resistant varnish/coating need to be used?

When I took the bulkhead out, I sanded off all the varnish and then applied teak oil to the entire bulkhead. It looks great and is easy to reoil in situ as required for nice appearance.
