I own a 2001 Catalina 36 and I’m doing some light interior restorations on it. In particular, I am refinishing the plywood located in the v-birth that hides the chain locker. Currently, I have both plywood panels sanded down nicely but I have a question regarding the finish
and need some advice. I do believe that the finish is a gloss varnish but I’m not sure. Can someone advise me on the type of varnish to use, application, sheen and do I have to put a sealer on first? Thanks for your help.
The original finish is a product supplied by Target Coatings and is available on line. It is a water based varnish and is easy to use. There is a good article on the steps to take in the Catalina 36 site. The product is updated periodically. Last time I ordered a quart, I used EM2332 satin.
