Starter

Was changing hoses and saw this loose connection at the starter motor.  It doesn't look like it was ever connected and I see no other loose wire down there but it's tough to see.  Anyone recognize it?  Is this normal?

About five years ago when I replaced the starter on Caprice I wondered what that extra wire was for and was told that the replacement starter is sold for other engines for other purposes and was not needed on our boats. I taped up the end and it has been working since them.with no problems.

If you hear different please post it.

Enrique;
 We have the M-35 engine and I too have that stub. It does not appear to be connected to anything on my engine and is most likely a spare lead used for other purposes.
