Just bought replacement vinyl from Catalina Direct (NO DIRECTIONS INCLUDED) for my 1984 Catlina 36 hull # 185. There is a "V" groove at the top and also one at the bottom and the outside has a nice symmetrical curve to it.
THE INSIDE IS NOT SYMETRICAL, THER IS A BIG RADIUS AND A SMALL RADIUS. MY QUESTION IS WHICH SIDE IS UP??????

Rubrail Insert Replacement
Welcome to the forum, Rosemont. If you look at the screws which attach the metal strip to the hull, you'll see that those screws are also off-center. You will want to orient the new railing such that the "big radius" goes over the screws. When you hold the rubrail up to the strip, you'll see what I mean. FYI, I did a write-up on rubrail installation which appeared in the Mainsheet last year, just in case you have those lying around.

PS - Before someone else does, I'll suggest that you fill out your signature in the User CP area. It will help others to know about your boat, which model, where you're located, etc.

I replaced my rub rail last season.
It took about an hour.
Cleaning out the old aluminum track removed lots of dirt, organisms, etc. (good!).
The trick is, use a large (5 gallon or more) container of hot, slightly soapy water, to soften and lubricate the new rubber rail.
Then, starting from one aft end, slowly work the top edge, then the bottom edge into place, about 3" at a time.
Take your time, be happy about it, and after an hour of Zen, you will be very pleased at the results!
Have fun!
