Impeller replacement dumb question

Hi,
I replaced the impeller in the Sherwood raw water pump on my universal M35B diesel engine this past weekend.  The kit had a paper gasket and two rubber o rings included with the new impeller.  When I removed the cover there was no paper gasket installed. Since it was included in the kit I replaced the o ring and I installed the paper gasket.   Now I am wondering if the paper gasket was required.  Is the o ring the only gasket needed?  By installing the paper gasket did I cause the o ring not to seat properly?
     Could use some help.
Thanks

It really was a dumb question and I answered it myself.  I went to the parts list and noticed that the paper gasket is needed if you open up the pump body itself.  I guess I just waisted a good gasket.

Unfortunately I do not have my documents with me but the gasket goes between the pump body and the thin metal plate that you can pop off the pump base. If you need more info let me know and I will respond accordingly. Also if you need any more impeller kits let me know by PM. I will make you a deal.
