Fore Deck Moisture Problems

What are causes if there are no visible water leaks below in 'v' berth ? What are the remedies ? Deck is still very firm . No softness !

A few things 1st as many here may be able to help. How do you know you have a wet fore deck? Have you mapped it out with a mosture meter so you know where itis wet? Would recommend that first. If not, how do you know it is wet? What year of boat? The more details you can give, the better off you will be with getting help.

Potential buyer had survey done this past weekend.Moisture meter indicates moisture in all areas of deck forward of lower shrouds. That's all I know at this time. This is a big surprise .Never had any water leaks or indications since owning 1987 Catalina36.deck is solid footiing .No moisture problems noted anywhere else on boat.I'm trying to determine next course of action. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

One of the things I have done in the past with a few boats before we bought our 36 was used a small rubber hammer also to sound out the deck. You can hear a big difference if it is wet or soft by taping it softly in different areas. Now I have a moisture meter on board so I can keep track of any mosture trouble if any.

Having repaired our deck on our previous 30 Catalina and knowing what the meter told me and what I know now. To me it would depend where the needle was on my meter and how big of spot and where it was located at. I had an area that was 12" by 72" that I had to cut out and repair as in order to sell it. After I had repaired it. It was better then new actually.

One thing you can do as a buyer is, in your offer get a quote on what it would cost to have it repaired if your concerned and use that to your advantage in an offer. This is why I had done the repair as I kept getting offers $10,000 les then what we were asking and it was priced right to sell. After I did the work. We got what we were asking. So it is a big question in what to do and how bad the moisture spot is and where it is. Hope this helps.
