Engine temp

Have an 85 with the original m-25 with about 1300 hours on it. What is the engine temp and preferred rpm for running it. Was at 3000 yesterday and temp got over 200 for a little while. Is that too high? After reducing rpm to 2500, temp came back down to 180. That's higher than I have noticed before, probably due to higher water temps. I'm in New Jersey in Raritan bay. I read you should try to run the diesel pretty hard, but how hard is too hard?

John,

The M25 with the original 2 inch HX will always do that.  I invested in a larger 3 inch HX and can run at WOT all day if I choose to do so.  I used to have the same issues you described until that change.

We find running anywhere from 2,000 to 2,600 is fine, with a check to WOT to 3,000 every once in a while.
