I have a 1995 Catalina 36 MKII Hull #1465 that recently had a problem with the Steering Cables. I was out sailing when one of the cables broke (pinched by the gears). So I replaced the cables with thicker Stainless Steal Cables and noticed that eventhough the Chain was place on the gears equadistance the cable was still being pinched when going to port hard.

Looking over the complete system I see the Radial Wheel with a Steel Spoke that is stopped by the Fiberglass has been worn away.

So I fiberglass this in and get two Rubber Corks and cover the Steel Spoke.

Try it out again and the samething happens.

So at this poing I call Edson Marine and order a 2foot chain as opposed to a 1.5 foot chain that I have.

Going to replace this next week, but not sure if anyone else has ran into a similar issue on the Catalina 36 MKII or not.
