This is interesting info that I just received from Catalina Direct- involving steering system failures from corrosion of pulley mounts - applicable to 2004 and earlier models.

Has anyone experienced failure of this part. I looked at mine; it has some corrosion but I can't tell if it is serious.

Checked mine: Some minor superficial rust easily removed with a wire brush. Then touched the rust spots with phosphoric acid; wiped it dry. Finished with a smear of lanolin protective "wax"
Now looks like new .. well almost.
