Cover/plug for removing gauges

I am getting new gauges and locating them in a pod over the back of the companionway. The pod will be inside the dodger, so as not to interfere with the mainsheet. I was hoping to replace the old gauges with a blank gauge or plug, but the hole is over 4 inches in diameter. All I can find is 2 or 4 inch blank gauges. If I cannot get a blank gauge which will fit, I could make a plug out of starboard. Has anyone ever tried to plug these holes ?

If it is a permanent thing I would look into making a whole new panel with only the cutouts you want.  Frontpanelexpress.com
