Blower hose Siphon into engine compartment

I've been sailing my boat hard into some Sea of Cortez chop these past few days and keep discovering a couple gallons of seawater in the bilge. Yesterday I noticed that when I'm heeled over 25 degrees or more, my engine blower exhaust vents are essentially at the waterline. I'm a full time cruiser so I have a lot of weight and had to raise my waterline by about 3 inches so this may exacerbate the issue.

I checked the hoses and sure enough they were full of water. There must be a hole in them somewhere before the engine compartment where they are draining into the main bilge. Luckily I had the ends set up nice and high in the engine compartment so it didn't siphon the ocean into my engine compartment.

I have 2 questions: has anyone else encountered this and have a solution? I imagine a loop after the vents that takes them extra high in the aft lazarettes before coming down into the engine compartment is my only option. Is this how they are supposed to be mounted?

2nd, any good recommendations for a replacement hose that won't crush or tear? I'm using crappy 3" hvac/drier tubing. I store a lot of things in both the aft cabin compartment (some call this the mother in law suite I think?) in my MK II as well as the lazarettes, so I need something tough that won't crush or tear. I'll be back in the states this summer where I can buy specialty products, but would also like find something simple here in Mexico that will at least let me sail safely up to San Diego. I would love suggestions for either. I appreciate any ideas!
