Hi All,
I've just purchased a new-to-me 1992 C36 Mk 1.5 with tall rig. The mast ring at the base of the mast has studs sticking up to mount the turning blocks for halyards etc that go back to the cockpit. I plan to run many more lines back aft (reefing, vang, main halyard and cunningham) so I need to add some studs to mount more turning blocks.
The ring doesn't appear to have any vacant holes or indication of where to place new holes. I plan to put 1 on each side of center on the aft side of the mast and one more on the port side in addition to the pre-existing studs. Has anyone else done this? Any issues I need to be aware of?

Hi Brian,
I did that a couple of years ago. I removed the collar and took it to a local machine shop. The holes need to be counter sunk on the bottom for the flange for the mounting studs, I took one of the newly purchased studs from Catalina Direct, so they would have its dimensions. I'll try to get a photo later. The cost was about $100.00. It is easy to do if you have the tools, I didn't.

Thanks Lou. That means the mast has to be off to do the machining. I don't plan to remove the mast till spring. Maybe I'll drill and tap some threaded holes from above and fasten in a pad eye instead. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the info!

We have run all the lines aft: halyards, vang (we have a ridged vang, no topping lift), outhaul, and reef lines (2 each tack and clew reef lines). We do not need to go forward to reef.
