Do any of you have a coolant recovery tank installed on your Universal engine?
The coolant recovery tank holds engine antifreeze that may expand out of your heat exchanger during normal engine operation.

Hi Bill,
Our boat was built in September of 1989 and I believe is original in almost all ways. We have a coolant recovery tank. It seldom has anything but a few ounces of coolant in it.
Cheers,

On MKIIs, typically found in the port lazarette above the fuel tank against the hull.

1989 vintage - no recovery tank. Hose just ports to the bilge.

I added a recovery tank. Looks good and fits upright so it fits behind the motor cover. It's from Amazon search for "hot rod radiator overflow". The internal overflow for these tanks is lower than I would like I have a 2"x15 and it Seems to work great no overflow to the bilge. Even with the stand pipe several inches down in the tank

I purchased the recovery kit from Catalina Direct and installed it, I could never keep the system full before I got the tank kit, It kept overflowing to the bilge. Now the tank keeps coolant in it and the system stays full as it should.

Mine just dumps to the bilge as well. It's on the to-do list to add a recovery tank. Finding a place to mount it might be the most difficult part.

Thanks everyone.
I have ordered and received an expansion tank from Amazon.
I'll be installing it on my next trip to the boat.

Here's the kit from Catalina Direct. Not sure where they suggest it be mounted..

Las,
I just picked up the same type of tank off EBay. So you have no issues with the flow of excess coolant where it's mounted?

No level seems constant. The overflow if any would be routed to the bilge.
