Microwave Found ?

The small space allowed to fit a microwave has been a discussion in this forum in the past. My 2006 microwave started flaking out last year and I had spent a lot of time searching, unable to find anything under 10.1" in height.

Now I see that there is a GE model (JE740DRWW) which is available at Home Depot and a few other places which might fit. It's listed as 9-7/8 height which seems about right. I'd run out and try it but my boat is 100 miles from here. Anybody know if that model would work?

This might be a winner. I had given up looking. The smallest I had been able to find is 10 1/8" which is a little too high for my space. I am currently in Florida and it will be several weeks before I get to my boat to measure the space again. I will post my findings.

Greg,

I just went down to my 1999 model and my microwave measures 8.5 inches high. There is a header board across the top of the opening which appears that it could be cut down at least 1.5 inches to allow a higher unit to install.

Hope that helps.

Today at my boat I measured the shelf height opening above the stove. 9 3/4" would be a very tight fit; if it would fit. I would be looking for a max of 9 1/2". As mentioned in an earlier thread; I found a very small microwave on Craig's list that fit in the space. It must be at least 20 years old and has a dial (before touch pads), but it warms things and still works.

Since I have a 1990 I do not know if our space is the same but I cut down the bottom lip and was able to fit a 10 + in micro wave into the spot

Bill,

I think that is the only alternative.

My microwave in my 2005 MK II is a GE JE620BF/WF
I AM LOOKING AT THE SPEC SHEET I PULLED FROM G.E.'S WEBSITE
THE EXTERIOR DIMENSIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS
WIDTH IN INCHES 18" 9/64THS
HEIGHT " " 9" 23/32
DEPTH " " 12" 27/32

I UNDERSTAND THAT THE MICROWAVE HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED BUT SOMETHING OF THAT DIMENSIONS MUST BE AVAILABLE.

The one I found is current mode: GE model (JE740DRWW) and their web site says it's 9-7/8" tall. I ordered one, but found that the web site is in error. The actual dimension is 10.19". Still no solution.
