Hello folks. I want to install an electric anchor windlass on my Catalina 36. It's a Mark 1 and it doesn't have one currently. I've seen the Sail La Vie discussion which is on a different vessel. Does anyone here have experience on an older boat like Trilogy? Thank you for your kind assistance.

Not sure if hull #53 would have the glassed-in spot inside the anchor locker for a vertically mounted windlass, but my Mk 1.5, 1991 model does. Without that you are probably looking at a horizontal model mounted on the deck behind the anchor locker. There are some inexpensive (relatively) Chinese ones you can source online. 700 w was the recommended size from the manufacturer.

Skip,
I have a MK 1 model and I installed a vertical windlass on my boat. See the photo attached. It is straight forward and the windlass can handle both chain and nylon rode. I have 120' of 5/16" chain and 200' of 9/16" plait line. I have other pictures, too large for this website, I'd be happy to share with you.

I to have a MKI 1984. I would love to see pictures of your installation if you would be so kind. Especially inside the V Birth. Did you add a dedicated battery? If so where?

We mounted a horizontal windlass, would have preferred a vertical but we also didn't want it intruding on the v berth. Took some mods but worth it, and clean, no designated battery, no problems. We've anchored out at the Channel Islands here in Ca, sailed to Puerto Vallarta and back, anchoring all over the place and in all kinds of conditions up to 40kts of wind and no problem, we use a bridal so the windlass doesn't have to support any load.
Sorry, I dont know why the pictures load side ways!?
