For years my favorite navigational aid was my old trusty Garmin map76. After some strong hints my wife gave me a new Garmin 78. My thoughts were that the learning curve would be easy on this upgrade. At my senior age I am not interested in mountain climbing and my car has a gps. I just want to sail Lake Michigan. Has anyone used this model? I am technically challenged, but after reading the brief manual I cannot do anything. How do you enter a waypoint? I guess I will eventually go back to West Marine and the Garmin help desk.

Gary,
Thanks for the site. I have saved it as there are some good points discussed. I have several months to work on this.

I recently bought one ( 78 SC) and resorted to buying a training cd that covers the Garmin models. It was informative and helpful on how to set up the different aspects of the device. I have also been pouring over the youtube videos ie gpscity , and they are so helpful in showing what the device is capable of doing. There is still a lot of learning curve , but if I can see one work it is easier to connect the dots on how to use it.
Good luck from a fellow low techer !

Thanks, SuperDave. Now that the holidays are over, I plan to do some serious video watching.
