I am reinstalling a Garhauer RV20 rigid vang mounted by a previous owner. The current boom geometry provides zero lift, resulting in a boom angle of minus ten degrees and frequent head strikes.

The internal components are fully serviced, clean, and in good condition. However, following the OEM instructions to fully compress from zero tension causes the blocks to bottom out before reaching fifty percent compression. The strut cannot achieve the recommended five to ten percent lift above level.

Because the mast mount is correct, I plan to relocate the boom mount.

Given the conflicting guidance between Garhauer verbal advice and written instructions regarding pre-loading, could anyone with hands-on experience advise on the correct approach to ensure proper function?
