Hello all~
I have a question. I’ll be moving to the Caribbean in a couple of years to be closer to the family. My plans are to sail her from Long Beach, Ca down to panama and up to the Caribbean.
She’s a 1983 Cat36 mk1, in really good condition. She will be completely refitted for the trip. The only thing am debating is don’t if I should drop in a new engine. The current (original engine) is in pretty good condition, just need new mounts.
My question is has anyone made this trip on there cat36. How the boat perform, good or bad? Any recommendation much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Paul,
Sounds like fun! There is an article in the Fall 2018 issue of Mainsheet, where Michael Joyce describes sailing the west coast to Panama.
The issues of Mainsheet can be accessed on our website.

Hey Paul,
We are planning to head that way, very slowly, around end of August beginning of September. However every week that passes I feel like that date should move back along with it. We are in an 88' Mk I, also in Channel Islands.
Thanks for the 'mainesail' link. I've been spending the last 2 years prepping and outfitting, getting close but still lots to do.....
