I own a 1984 C36 hull number 379. It does not have a 12 digit hull number. It was imported into Canada in 1995 from the US. I now have an American who is interested in purchasing the boat and re-importing it back into the USA. We cannot find a 12 digit hull number anywhere on the boat. As it stands this means it cannot be imported into the USA. Is there anything I can do about this?

Sailor Jo,
I'd suggest contacting Catalina Yachts. At one time they had an individual file (yes, a manila file folder!) on every boat, with all the details about the boat. On a factory tour many years ago, I got a look at "my" file, and it contained all sorts of stuff, including letters I had sent to them! They might be able to help.

Some repair on the transom must have obscured it as my 83 has the HIN in the normal place. There should be a duplicate hidden in the hull that the factory know about. I also have documentation numbers printed inside just forward of the 2” waste discharge valve.

Look behind the plate over rear cockpit hatch (at boarding ladder) thats where it usually is
On my '91 it is engraved in the gelcoat just below the toerail on the starboard side at the stern. Not very visible.
