Replacing head and galley faucets

Hey folks,

Has anyone here replaced the head and/or galley sink faucets with something other than stock from Catalina direct?  Looks like together the replacements would run me around $500... plus I don't think they're anything special to begin with..

Access to the locknuts will be tricky for both.. will need to get some sort of long lugnut/socket wrench extension.  Any advice/details much appreciated.

Thanks,

Brad

Brad, I replaced the Galley faucet with one from Amazon that was a bar-sized faucet. The brand name is DAYONE. I had to cut a 4-in access hole on the back side of it for maintenance and installation. Note I had to remove the small blue inline filter from the line for the faucet extension to keep it clear of calcium buildup.

For the head all the pull-out solutions I found were expensive and I always found the hand-held a pain to use, so I just used a Home Depot bathroom sink faucet and I installed a shower control and handheld shower head on a bracket abover the seatee, running the hose under the seatee.  See photos.

I had some pinholes in the bottom of one side of the double sink in my 2001 MKII.  I ended up putting in a single smaller chef sink that also required a new faucet.  I love it.  It has a rack for drying and a cutting board.  I did have to carve the counter a lot to get it to fit and trim the metal edge of the sink.  I got a standard sink faucet off amazon, and its great.  You turn the head for either a stream or a wide shower mode, perfect for a quick water saving rinse.

The head faucet is another issue.  If its anything like mine, it also pulls out and is the shower.  So finding one that could replace it will be omre difficult, although I suppose a pull out type small kitchen sink faucet that can go to a spray type mode might be able to do the job.  When my head faucet started leaking, I took it apart and replaced all O rings.  Works much better now.

Army Sailor - do you have a part number or description for that sink? It is a project I've been looking at for a while....

I found the replacement head faucet online for about $200. Expensive but it was an easy part swap and probably saved me some skinned knuckles. It is an Ambassador Trident Marine, seems to be a well made product. I purchased the white version.

Thanks all.  This is great info and pics!  All looks like nice work-  good looking results.

was it hard to access that head faucet?  Tight back in there.  Any specific tool that you had to use?

I got the sink and faucet off amazon.

Its a 25 x 18 inch sink.

I looked for the faucet but its no longer available.  But any single hole faucet should fit pretty well.

The sink was a little wide front to back for the counter.  I took about a half inch off the rear flange and also had to trim the front right corner with an angle grinder to make it fit right.  But it came out very well.  I also had to cut the hole in the counter much bigger to make it fit.  It conflicted with the silverware drawer to the right and I made that a little thinner as well.  The bonus was that it no longer tries to close on my fingers all by itself.  It now wants to be closed when its closed and stays open when its open.

Look at Home Depot or a similar store for a "basin sink wrench". Google it and you'll see how it will allow you to reach up into the tight space under the sink to replace the facets.

Thanks all.  I ended up finding stuff at Home Depot.

The drain for the head sink was difficult-- the sink doesn't have a bottom funnel like a regular house sink.  FYI it's a "bar sink" size so if you search drains for that you'll be good.  But I was able to find a drain at Home Depot that works well (brand that starts with V.. can't remember offhand but can look later if someone needs the info).  It's just needs to be threaded and closed all the way up to the drain, and it's hard to find at a normal hardware store. access for the head faucet wasn't bad.

The galley faucet was easy with the access panel.

Appreciate the input all!
