Hi all -
I am in the process of attempting to install a 105A alternator from CD. I ordered serpentine belt and pulley kit from Electromaax that were designed for the M35 engine that I've got. I have the water pump pulley installed and the crank pulley dry-fit in place. It is apparent that the serpentine belt is going to hit the Sherwood water pump housing. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, or is this pulley kit not what it's supposed to be. Has anyone else installed one of these?

Do you have images before you made the change? The pully on the water pump appears to be too large in my opinion.

I don't have a "before" photo, but I found one online. You can see how the original v-belt is thin enough to run behind the Sherwood pump. My new serpentine is obviously much wider and does not fit behind.

I see the problem.
You would have to make some measurement to see if replacing the Sherwood pump with OBERDORFER would provide the clearance that you need.
You can download its specs from their website and for additional images and content visit the website listed on my signature and visit the pages for upgrading to OBERDORFER. I use N202M-16 version.
I hope that provides a solution. In any case many M35 engine owners have already converted due to more reliable and serviceble OBERDORFER.
let us know how you resolved this problems.

Thanks, I did think about the Oberdorfer pump. I'm going to wait and see what the pulley manufacturer suggests before I do anything more. This project has really gotten out of hand, with the new alternator, new wiring, A-to-B charge controller, and new serpentine pulleys. Now if I have to add a $450 water pump that I don't really need, that will be the icing on the cake. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Don

Comparing the published dimensions of the two water pumps, changing to the Oberdorfer pump does not solve the problem. They both have nearly the same clearance behind that impeller housing flange. 1.5" for the Sherwood pump, and 1.6" for the Oberdorfer. I'm really stuck.

I was hoping it may provide a solution, but does not look like it.
I hope those owners who have done this upgrade successfully can help provide the solution.
The only other difference I see is that the diameters of the pullies may be larger than the original ones.
Would you be able to measure or compare the. I am curious.

UPDATE. The company that I bought the pulley kit from contacted me back. They said that they have encountered this problem in the past, and that the solution is to change the new belt from a J10 to a J6, which is not as wide. They said they will ship me the new size once I have verified that the original belt length is OK. Let's hope this solves the problem!
