For those who considered repowering I repowered my catalina 36 with a Nani 3.3. My second season with engine and very happy with this engine. I had to modify the stringers slightly and cut about 2 inches off the shaft to allow engine to sit back a bit and upgrade exhaust to 2 inches. The engine cover (steps) required no modification.

Could you provide more detail & pictures?
What engine did you replace with the Nani 3.3? Did it have the same engine mount configuration? What transmisson does it use? What hull number are you? ......
Thanks

Hello Paul,
My 1984 C36 had a Universal Diesel 25 HP. My new Nanni has a 30 HP at 3600 RPMs, the transmission is a twin disc 2.0 ratio. I bought the engine directly from Nanni through a local rep so it was delivered to my house from France. The engine sits a bit lowerso the only modification was to widen the stringer a bit and raise them 1.75 (ish) I used mahagony decking. The housing that covers the engine (steps) required no modification that was the objective. Then I glassed the bed area. So far I have only used my glow plug once in the two seasons running it. The biggest obstacle was refitting my exchaust system but the silver lining was that I ended up with a nice space for 2 batteries where the old exhaust manifold lived. If you are looking for a new engine and want to avoid any modifications consider the beta, I believe they have a direct fit that will exploit your old exhaust manifold. Unfortunately I do not have pictures on my new phone but will be back at the boat next week and will take a few. The boat is in Marion Ma.
